Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the low beam headlamps.
  3. Turn ON the front fog lamps.
  4. Observe the rear fog lamps.
  5. Turn ON and OFF the rear fog lamps.
  6. Turn OFF the ignition.

Did the rear fog lamps operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn OFF the rear fog lamps.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Rear Fog Lamp Switch parameter in the Dash Integration Module (DIM) Inputs Data List.

Does the scan tool indicate that the rear fog lamp switch is parameter Idle?

Go to Step 4

With a scan tool, observe the Rear Fog Lamp Relay status in the Rear Integration Module (RIM) Output Control Data List

Does the scan tool indicate the rear fog lamp relay parameter is Off?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear fog lamp relay. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Did the rear fog lamps turn OFF?

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition .
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear fog lamp relay control circuit and the fog lamp relay coil voltage supply circuit at the relay terminals.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the turn signal/multifunction switch C 4 harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool observe the Rear Fog Lamp Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool indicate the Rear Fog Lamp Switch parameter is Idle?

Test the fog lamp relay control circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the rear fog lamp switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the turn signal/multifunction switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the rear fog lamp relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Locate and repair a short to voltage in the rear fog lamps supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
