DEFINITION: This table is for vehicles equipped with park lamp daytime running lamps.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Verify that the headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
  3. Verify that the fog lamp switch is in the OFF position.
  4. Verify that the hazard switch is in the OFF position.
  5. Verify that the windshield wipers is in the OFF position.
  6. Expose the ambient light sensor to a bright light.
  7. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  8. Move the gear selector out of the PARK position.
  9. Wait more than 3 seconds.

Do the daytime running lights (DRL) headlamps operate properly?

Do the hazard flashers operate properly?

Go to Step 4

With a scan tool, observe the Daytime Running Lamp parameter in the dash integration module (DIM) Outputs data list.

Does the scan tool display ON?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay control circuit at the turn signal/hazard/flasher module and battery positive voltage.
  3. With a scan tool command the Daytime Running Lamps ON and OFF several times from the DIM output control data list.

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

Test the DRL relay control circuit for an open or short to battery voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the turn signal/hazard/flasher module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

DEFINITION: This table is for export vehicles that utilize the low beam headlamps and park lamps as daytime running lamps.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  3. Move the gear selector out of the PARK position.
  4. Verify that the headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
  5. Expose the ambient light sensor to a bright light.
  6. Wait more than 3 seconds.

Do the daytime running lights (DRL) headlamps operate properly?

  1. With a scan tool, select the Daytime Running Lamp parameter from the Special Functions Output Controls data list.
  2. Command the Daytime Running Lamp output control ON and OFF.

Do the DRL turn ON and OFF with each command?

Do the low beam headlamps function properly?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DRL relay.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay control side supply voltage circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay switch side supply voltage circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay control side supply voltage circuit and the DRL relay control circuit at the DRL relay connector.
  2. With a scan tool, command the Daytime Running Lamps ON and OFF.

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper between the DRL relay switch side supply voltage circuit and the DRL headlamp supply voltage circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Test the DRL relay control circuit for an open or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

With a scan tool, observe the Photocell status in the climate control panel (CCP) Inputs data list.

Does the scan tool display a Light status?
