Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the hazard lamps.
  3. Turn ON the hazard lamps.
  4. Turn OFF the hazard lamps.

Did the hazard lamps operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Do the turn signal lamps and indicators operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Turn Signal Lamps and/or Indicators Inoperative

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Observe the Hazard Lamp Switch parameter in the Dash Integration Module (DIM) Inputs Data List.
  4. Turn ON and OFF the hazard lamp switch several times.

Does the scan tool display status turn ON and OFF with the hazard lamp switch?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the turn signal/hazard flasher module.
  3. Connect a test light from the hazard switch signal circuit of the turn signal/hazard flasher module to battery positive voltage.
  4. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn ON the hazard switch.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 10

Test the hazard switch signal circuit for an open or short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the hazard switch.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the hazard switch output circuit of the hazard switch and the ground circuit of the hazard switch.
  4. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  5. Observer the Hazard Lamp Switch parameter in the DIM inputs data list.

Does the scan tool Hazard Lamp Switch parameter display ON?

Test for an open, high resistance or short to voltage in the hazard switch output circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open or high resistance in the hazard switch ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the turn signal/hazard flasher module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the turn signal/hazard flasher module. Refer to Hazard and Turn Signal Flasher Replacement .

Important: Perform the setup procedure for the DIM.

Replace the DIM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup and programming.
