Attention: Proceed with this bulletin ONLY if the customer has commented about this concern AND the EI number is listed in GMVIS, otherwise disregard the bulletin and proceed with diagnostics found in the published service information. THIS IS NOT A RECALL. Refer to Service Bulletin 04-00-89-053A for more detail on the use of engineering information bulletins. Engineering is only interested in vehicles located in CALIFORNIA, FLORIDA, MICHIGAN and TEXAS.


Condition

Some customers may comment on front fascia paint concerns on peeling and/or scratches.

What Action to Take

Important: GM Engineering is only interested in vehicles located in California, Florida, Michigan and Texas.

GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. GM Engineering has a need to obtain information first hand during diagnosis and BEFORE repair. As a result, this information will be used by engineering to "root cause" the customer’s concern and develop/validate a field fix.

Instructions

If a vehicle is encountered with the above concern, please do the following steps:

  1. Record the VIN.
  2. Record the vehicle build date.
  3. Record the mileage at the time of service.
  4. Record the vehicle paint code and color.
  5. Photograph the paint concern.
  6. E-mail the pictures to [email protected]
  7. Contact Wayne Witkop at the GM Exterior Group prior to performing any paint repair to the front fascia.

Engineer Contact Information

Contact Engineer Wayne Witkop at 586-492-9096, and E-mail pictures to [email protected] before repairing the vehicle. GM Engineering may visit dealerships that are near Detroit, Michigan. In either case you will receive a response back within 2 hours on what action to take the same day of your call (Eastern Daylight Time).

If you do not receive a response from engineering, then proceed to repair the vehicle.

Parts Information

If necessary, GM may make arrangements to have the old fascia shipped to the Warranty Parts Center (WPC) based upon the information provided.

Important: Do NOT ship any parts to the WPC without a WPC request having been issued. WPC Requests will be sent for any parts that engineering wants to have returned.
