The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A dealer may encounter a 2007 Cadillac Escalade with a drive belt chirp or squeal noise.
There are two types of belt noises that may be encountered.
The first noise is a cold start belt chirp, and the second noise is a constant chirp that occurs at any temperature.
Complete the current SI diagnostics for Drive Belt Chirping, Squeal, and Whine Diagnosis. If diagnostics are inconclusive and the drive belt noise is excessive, continue with the information found in this PI.
There has been an updated calibration released for accessory drive belt noise that only occurs at start-up when the engine is cold.
Evaluate the cold start belt noise after the updated calibration is installed.
If the vehicle has a constant belt noise that occurs at any temperature when the engine is idling, disconnect the battery positive power feed to the alternator. If the belt noise is gone with the alternator positive voltage disconnected, do not attempt repairs.
Engineering is investigating the idle belt noise and this PI will be updated when new information becomes available.
If a dealer has encountered a 2007 Cadillac Escalade with a L92 engine that the calibration did not repair, or has the idle belt chirping noise, please complete a field product report using bulletin number 02-00-89-002F.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
