Inspection/Test
| Action
|
DEFINITION: Steady pulsation or jerking that follows engine speed, usually more pronounced as the engine load increases.
|
Sensor/System
|
• | Inspect the MAF and MAP sensors for proper seating of the connectors and terminals. |
• | Ensure the quality of the MAP sensor vacuum source. |
• | Inspect for vacuum leaks and other unmetered air. |
• | Inspect for contaminated heated oxygen sensors (HO2S). |
|
Fuel System
|
• | Test the fuel system for correct operation, restriction, volume, and pressure. Refer to
Fuel System Diagnosis
. |
|
Ignition System
|
• | Inspect for damaged ignition coils within the ignition coil module assemblies. |
• | Inspect for damaged or misaligned spark plug boots. |
• | Inspect the CKP sensor and harness for electromagnetic interference (EMI). |
|
Additional Inspections
|
• | Inspect for a restricted air intake system. |
• | Inspect for a dirty or restricted air filter. |
• | Inspect the engine mechanical for oil consumption, correct engine compression and correct base engine timing. Refer to
Symptoms - Engine Mechanical
. |
• | An engine miss condition can be caused by electromagnetic interference (EMI). EMI can usually be detected by monitoring the engine RPM with a scan tool. A sudden increase in RPM with little change in the actual engine RPM indicates EMI is present. |
