ENGINE SURGE IN 3RD GEAR NEW PROM PART NUMBERS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 AND 1986 'J' CARS WITH 2.8L (VIN CODE W) MPFI ENGINES AND 3 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Some 'J' cars may experience an engine surge condition in the 50 to 65 km/h (32 to 40 mph) range, in third gear, under steady throttle, with the torque converter clutch (TCC) applied.

To correct this condition, replace the PROM with one of the following PROMs:

NOTICE: These PROMs contain a revised TCC engagement schedule that raises TCC engagement to 75 km/h (45 mph) and disengagement to 70 km/h (42 mph).
