TRANSAXLE CONVERTER COVER INTERFERENCE NOISE - REPAIR

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 - 1986 Cimarrons with 125C Transaxle

Some 1985 and early 1986 Cimarrons with 125C automatic transaxles may exhibit a noise generated by an interference condition between the plastic transaxle converter cover and the flexplate.

This condition may be corrected by replacing the plastic converter cover with the appropriate cover listed below:

Engine Converter Cover ------ --------------- 2.0L 14094891 2.8L 14094882

On 1985 models it will be necessary to also replace the three existing torque converter to flexplate bolts with P/N 10021095 (three required) which utilize a shorter head to ensure adequate clearance. Tighten the torque converter to flexplate bolts to 63 N.m (46 ft. lbs), retightening the first bolt to specification after tightening all three.

WARRANTY INFORMATION:

On 1985 models, use labor Operation K6300 for .5 hours (includes replacing the connecter cover and three converter to flexiplate bolts).

On 1986 models, use labor Operation K6295 for .3 hours (includes replacing converter cover only).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
