Circuit/System Description

The right front exterior door handle switch signal circuit provides inputs to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) and the passenger door module (PDM) when the right front exterior door handle switch is activated. This input allows the PDM and RCDLR to detect a door open request. The PDM and RCDLR provide voltage to the right front exterior door handle switch via the right front door handle switch signal circuit. When the right front door handle is activated, the switch closes and the voltage signals from the PDM and RCDLR are pulled to ground.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Battery voltage is between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The RCDLR detects the right front exterior door handle switch signal circuit is shorted to ground or closed for greater than 180 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The RCDLR ignores inputs from the right front exterior door handle switch.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
    • When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

With the doors LOCKED and the keyless access transmitter within 3 feet of the door, open the front passenger door by using the exterior door handle, the passenger door should UNLOCK and open.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the passenger door handle switch and disconnect the X1 harness connector at the RCDLR.
  2. Ignition ON, test for greater than 10V between the signal circuit terminal E and ground.
  3. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, PDM.
  4. Ignition OFF, connect the X1 harness connector at the RCDLR and disconnect the X6 harness connector at the PDM.
  5. Ignition ON, test for greater than 10V between the signal circuit terminal E and ground.
  6. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, RCDLR.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the passenger exterior door handle.

Component Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the passenger door handle switch.
  2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below:
  3. • Terminal E and Terminal F
    • Terminal B and Terminal C
If not the specified value, replace the passenger exterior door handle.
  4. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 1 ohm between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below:
  5. • Terminal E and Terminal F
    • Terminal B and Terminal C
If greater than the specified range, replace the passenger exterior door handle.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
