EU Radio Incorrectly Changes Radio Stations - keywords europe fm frequency navigation phantom reception station unwanted

Subject:EU Radio Incorrectly Changes Radio Stations

Models:2008 EU Cadillac CTS w/ Navigation Radio (U2Y)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The FM band has an AF, or Auto Frequency function that will change the frequency automatically, based on signal strength, to maintain the same station. The use should be seamless, as one drives from a weaker signal to a stronger broadcast area.

What was observed in a few CTSs in The Netherlands, Germany and elsewhere is that when the reception of a station on one frequency gets bad enough that it should automatically jump to another alternative frequency with the same station, it simply jumps to another station and frequency. To the driver, it seems like the radio just changed to another station by itself.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Do not replace radio. This symptom is caused by a corruption of the radios frequency look up tables. These tables can be cleared and temporarily resolve the issue by removing battery power, or disconnecting the battery fuse for the radio for at least 10 seconds. New Nav radio software is planed for a service release to address this issue available third quarter 2008.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
