This PI was superseded to include wiring chafe near the fuel rail service port. Please discard PIC4720.


The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and or Reduced Engine Power is displayed on the Driver Information Center. Further investigation may reveal one or more of DTC listed below are stored. The cause may be the engine wire harness chaffing on the passenger front engine cover/sight shield ball stud bracket, or harness chaffing on the fuel feed pipe.

P0087 Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) Too Low

P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator Performance

P0451 Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Performance

P0452 Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage

P0628 Fuel Pump Relay Control Circuit Low Voltage

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. For DTC P0087 P0089 P0451 P0452 P0628, inspect the engine control module wire harness breakout (1) for chaffing on the passenger front engine cover/sight shield ball stud bracket (2).

  2. Object Number: 2044229  Size: SH
  3. Repair the wiring as necessary using procedures found in Wiring Systems and Power Management- Diagnostic Information and Procedures. Reroute the harness under the battery negative cable (3) away from the passenger front engine cover/sight shield ball stud bracket (2).

  4. Object Number: 2044230  Size: SH
  5. For DTC P0087 P0089, inspect the engine wire harness for chaffing on the fuel feed pipe near the fuel rail service port (4). Repair the wiring as necessary using procedures found in Wiring Systems and Power Management- Diagnostic Information and Procedures.

  6. Object Number: 2112644  Size: SH

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
