Subject: | Cannot Remove Key Or Ignition Knob Will Not Rotate To Lock |
Models: | 2008 Cadillac CTS |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A customer may comment they cannot remove the ignition key, or the ignition knob will not rotate to the lock position. If the key is left on, Accessory Mode Active may be displayed and the battery can become discharged. Moving the column can affect this condition. The cause may be that the wire harness breakout for the ignition lock cylinder control actuator has become trapped behind the actuator plunger, inhibiting the plunger's travel.
Remove the steering column shroud and inspect the harness breakout (1) for the potential to become trapped behind the plunger (2). Repair the wiring if necessary by rerouting the harness breakout away from the plunger wrapping it on the outside of the steering column wire harness. Secure it with tape (3).
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
