Hard Brake Pedal On Cold Starts - keywords fuse llt pump relay vac vacuum

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customers may comment on a hard brake pedal. This condition is most apparent in the first 30 seconds after a cold start. Further investigation will reveal the BRK VAC PUMP Fuse in the underhood fuse block is open. This condition may be caused by circuit 240 or 1470 chaffing on the right cylinder head.

1. Inspect the Brake Booster Pump Relay wiring (1) for chafing on the right engine cylinder head.



2. Repair the wiring as necessary.
3. Reroute wiring away from the cylinder head by relocating the relay wiring breakout to the outboard side of the engine wire harness bundle (2).

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
