Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  3. Object Number: 1969969  Size: SH
  4. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pins, remove the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
  5. Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  6. Remove the brake caliper and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.

  8. Remove the inner brake pad (1).
  9. Remove the outer brake pad (2).

  11. Remove the brake pad springs (1).

  13. Remove the brake caliper guide pins (1) and seals (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Inspect the brake caliper guide pins, seals and brake pad springs for damage and/or corrosion. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection.

  2. Object Number: 1969976  Size: SH
  3. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant the brake caliper guide pins.
  4. Install the brake caliper guide pins (1) to the guide pin seals (2).
  5. Ensure the guide pin seals are fully seated in the groove of the brake caliper guide pins.

  6. Install the brake caliper guide pins and seals to the brake caliper bracket.
  7. Ensure the guide pin seals are fully seated in the groove of the brake caliper bracket.

  8. Install the brake pad springs (1).

  10. Install the inner brake pad (1).
  11. Install the outer brake pad (2).

  13. Install the brake caliper to the brake caliper bracket.
  14. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pins, install the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
  15. Important: If reusing the brake caliper guide pin bolts, the threads of the brake caliper guide pin bolts and the threads of the guide pins must be free of residue and debris prior to application of threadlocker in order to ensure proper adhesion and fastener retention.

  16. If reusing the caliper pin bolts, prepare the bolts and the guide pins for assembly:
  17. • Thoroughly clean the residue from the guide pin bolt threads by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    • Thoroughly clean the residue from the guide pin threads by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
  18. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488), or equivalent to 2/3 of the threaded length of the brake caliper guide pin bolts. Ensure there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the bolts.
  19. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation.
  20. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  21. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pins, install the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  23. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
