    ā€¢ J 45017 Output Shaft Seal Installer
    ā€¢ J 45019 Flange and Pinion Cage Remover

    Object Number: 1978084 Size: SH
  1. Lightly lube the outer diameter of the seal with axle lube (1).
  2. Using the J 45017  (2), install the axle oil seal (2) into the housing (3).

    3. Object Number: 777529 Size: SH
  3. Install the differential carrier (2) into the housing (1).

    4. Object Number: 1978171 Size: SH
  4. Lightly lube the outer diameter of the seal with axle lube.
  5. Using the J 45017  (1), install the axle oil seal (2) into the differential side cover (3).

    6. Object Number: 1978175 Size: MH
  6. Apply a bead of silicone sealant GM P/N 12346286 (Canadian P/N 1095372) (1) 3 - 6 mm (0.118 to 0.236 in) to the side cover (2).

    7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1978726 Size: SH
  7. Install the differential side cover bolts (1).

    8. Tighten
    Tighten the 9 side cover bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 25 NĀ·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the drain plug and fill the axle with axle lube. Refer to Axle Lubricant Change .
