DTC Descriptor

DTC B2732 : Trunk Release Switch Circuit Low

Circuit/System Description

When the rear compartment lid release switch is operated, the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit to the driver door switch assembly (DDSA) is switched to ground. The DDSA communicates via class 2 serial data with the rear integration module (RIM) indicating the request for rear compartment release. The RIM receives the rear compartment lid release switch input and applies ground to the trunk release relay control circuit. This energizes the trunk release relay coil, closing the switch side contacts, allowing battery voltage to be applied to the rear compartment lid release actuator and opening the rear compartment lid. The rear compartment lid ajar switch and rear compartment lid release actuator are provided ground at G402. For more detailed information concerning rear compartment lid release refer to Luggage Compartment Description and Operation .

Conditions for Running the DTC

The rear compartment lid release is active.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The DDSA detects a short to ground on the rear compartment lid release switch circuit.
    • The condition is present for more than 125 ms.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

The RIM disables the rear compartment lid release for the duration of the ignition cycle.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
    • You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.
    • A history DTC will clear after 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release switch.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
  3. If greater than 1.0 ohm, test the ground circuit terminal B for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the switch signal circuit terminal A and B+.
  5. If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.
  6. Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and the ground circuit terminal B. Verify the rear compartment lid release actuator activates.
  7. If the rear compartment lid release actuator does not activate, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear compartment lid release switch.

Component Testing

Rear Compartment lid Release Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the ground terminal and the signal terminal with the switch in the open position.
  3. If less than infinite resistance, replace the switch.
  4. Test for less than 1 ohm resistance between the ground terminal and the signal terminal with the switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than 1 ohm, replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
