The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment about a noise described as a clunk from the steering system while turning.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Perform the following test to identify if the upper intermediate shaft is the cause:

Notice: The engine should be at normal operating temperature and the Transmission in Park when performing this test.

  1. Start the engine with the front wheels pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn the steering wheel in either direction to until you reach the end stop.
  3. Turn the steering wheel in opposite direction until reach the other end stop.
  4. If a clunk occurs multiple times in a cyclic fashion, replace the Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
