Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement .
  4. Clean any dirt or debris from the power steering gear solenoid/actuator wiring harness (1) and solenoid.

  6. Disconnect the power steering gear solenoid/actuator electrical connector and disconnect the power steering gear solenoid/actuator wiring harness from the 2 plastic wiring harness retainers.

  7. Object Number: 1787189  Size: SH

    Important: Do not get dirt or debris on the lower portion or the solenoid below the hex or inside the solenoid port of the steering gear.

  8. Remove the power steering gear solenoid/actuator from the steering gear by turning it in a counterclockwise rotation.
  9. Remove the power steering gear solenoid/actuator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1787189  Size: SH

    Important: Do not get dirt or debris on the lower portion or the solenoid below the hex or inside the solenoid port of the steering gear.

    Important: Make sure the new power steering gear solenoid/actuator is equipped with 2 O-rings visible beneath the hex portion of the solenoid.

  1. Install the power steering gear solenoid/actuator to the gear.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Using the open-end crowfoot that comes in the service kit, install the power steering gear solenoid/actuator in the steering gear.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the solenoid to 18 N·m (14 lb ft).

  5. Connect the power steering gear solenoid/actuator wiring harness to the 2 plastic wiring harness retainers and connect the electrical connector.
  6. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement .
  7. Install the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  8. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  9. Lower the vehicle.
