Condition

Some customers may comment about a rattle noise coming from the shifter area. The customer may also notice that the shift knob is loose.

Cause

The shift knob has a retaining screw at the base facing rearward. This screw can loosen with use and create a rattle condition. Re-tightening the screw or replacing the knob or shifter will not permanently resolve the condition.

Apply sealant to the shift knob retaining screw and retighten.

    • Do not retighten the retaining screw without sealant.
    • Do not replace the shifter or the knob.
  1. Remove the shift knob retaining screw.
  2. Apply 242 Blue Threadlocker (medium grade) P/N 12345382 (in Canada, P/N 10953489) to the retaining screw.
  3. Install the shift knob retaining screw.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).
