Subject: | Squeak Noise From Steering |
Models: | 2006 Cadillac CTS and CTS-V |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some 2006 Cadillac CTS and CTS-V may experience and squeak or whirr type noise when turning. This noise may be caused by the plastic Umbrella Dust Cover rubbing on the steering gear housing. This noise can easily be mistaken for a noisy SIR coil, column bearing, steering gear, or pump.
Disconnect the Intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Gear and remove the plastic Umbrella Dust Cover. Lubricate the contact surfaces between the inside lip of the dust cover and the steering gear housing using a lithium grease.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
