Battery Positive Cable Replacement LP1, LY7

Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same as the original cable.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement .
  3. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery.

  4. Object Number: 785724  Size: SH
  5. Depress the tabs in order to remove the cover from the electrical center.

  6. Object Number: 772415  Size: SH
  7. Remove the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable (2) to the underhood fuse block.

  8. Object Number: 887703  Size: SH
  9. Reposition the protective boot from the generator output BAT terminal for access.
  10. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (3) and disconnect the battery positive lead (2) from the generator.

  11. Object Number: 887713  Size: SH
  12. Remove the starter terminal nut (1) and disconnect the battery positive cable (2) from the starter.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Remove the battery positive cable from the engine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the battery positive cable to the engine.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Connect the battery positive cable (2) to the starter and install the starter terminal nut (1).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  6. Connect the battery positive lead (2) to the generator and install the generator BAT terminal nut (3).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  8. Install the protective boot to the generator output BAT terminal.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  10. Object Number: 772415  Size: SH
  11. Install the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable (2) to the underhood fuse block.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  13. Install the electrical center cover.

  14. Object Number: 772424  Size: SH
  15. Connect the battery positive cable to the battery.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  17. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement for the Aisin A/6 transmission or Transmission Replacement for the 5L40-E/5L50-E transmission.
  18. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Positive Cable Replacement LS2

Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable (2). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery.

  3. Object Number: 785724  Size: SH
  4. Remove the wiring harness from the retaining features on the underhood fuse block cover.
  5. Depress the tabs in order to remove the underhood fuse block cover from the underhood fuse block.

  6. Object Number: 772415  Size: SH
  7. Remove the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable (2) to the underhood fuse block.
  8. Disconnect the cable retaining clip from the stud.
  9. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement.

  10. Object Number: 1455601  Size: SH
  11. Remove the positive battery cable from the starter motor.
  12. Remove the positive battery cable from the retaining features on the clutch housing mounting bolts.
  13. Remove the left front wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement.

  14. Object Number: 1455610  Size: SH
  15. Remove the positive battery cable from the retaining features on the engine block.
  16. Pull back the rubber boot and remove the generator output BAT terminal nut.
  17. Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1455610  Size: SH
  1. Position the battery positive cable to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the battery positive cable and nut to the generator.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable to generator output BAT terminal nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  5. Install the positive battery cable to the retaining features on the engine block.
  6. Install the left front wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement.
  7. Install the positive battery cable to the retaining features on the clutch housing mounting bolts.
  8. Install the positive battery cable to the starter motor.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable to starter motor nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  10. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement.
  11. Connect the cable retaining clip to the stud.
  12. Install the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable (2) to the underhood fuse block.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable to underhood fuse block nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  14. Install the underhood fuse block cover to the underhood fuse block.
  15. Install the wiring harness to the retaining features on the underhood fuse block cover.

  16. Object Number: 772418  Size: SH
  17. Connect the battery positive cable to the battery.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  19. Connect the battery negative cable (2). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
