A condition of idle degradation (RPM fluctuation) may occur on some 1984 Skylarks when operating under any of the following closed throttle positions:
1. Braking to a stop. 2. Idle (park or in gear). 3. Turning steering wheel. 4. Engaging the air conditioner. 5. Switching the blower motor fan to the third blower position.
Also, engine dieseling may result after turning off the ignition.
If any of these conditions are encourntered and cannot be repaired with currently published diagnostic and service information, it may be necessary to replace the throttle kicker relay located on the upper right hand side of the engine cowl, and reset the speed control per the Buick Chassis Service Manual.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
