Some 1982 Century and Skylark vehicles equipped with 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission, may exhibit a throttle sensitive vibration and/or moan in the 1700 to 2000 RPM range which is felt in the floor pan area and heard in the rear seat.
This condition may be caused by a mis-tuned cradle damper and can be improved by replacing the original cradle damper assembly with the 1981 damper (part number 14011736).
"A" series vehicles built after December 18, 1981 will be built with the 1981 damper and should not exhibit the condition.
All "X" series were assembled with 1981 dampers. The 1981 damper assembly (part number 14011736) is 220mm in length, which is 23mm longer than the 1982 damper.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
