AIR CONDITIONING HOSE ROUTINGS
Some 1987 Skyhawks, Firenzas and Cavaliers may not have proper clearance between some of the air conditioning hoses/lines and some engine components. This condition can lead to abrasion of air conditioning hoses/lines or melting of hoses if routed too close to exhaust system components.
If any of these conditions are encountered, the air conditioning hose/pipe routings should be carefully adjusted to achieve the following minimum clearances. Refer to illustration.
A/C Muffler to Exhaust Flange-----------23.5mm (approx. 15/16 in.) Suction Hose to Exhaust Manifold--------40.Omm (approx. 1 9/16 in.) Discharge Line to Alternator Bracket----30.Omm (approx. 1 3/16 in.)
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
