A CIMARRON EQUIPPED WITH A MANUAL TRANSAXLE MAY ILLUMINATE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SET A CODE 24 AFTER A COLD START BEFORE THE CAR IS DRIVEN AWAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL TURN OFF ONCE THE CAR IS DRIVEN PROVIDED THE SPEED SENSOR INPUT IS CORRECT.
THE DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE IN THE ECM COMPARES TPS ANGLE TO VEHICLE SPEED WHEN THE PARK NEUTRAL INPUT DOES NOT INDICATE PARK OR NEUTRAL. SINCE A MANUAL TRANSAXLE CIMARRON HAS A CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH RATHER THAN A PARK NEUTRAL SWITCH, A CAR IDLING AT A FAST IDLE IN NEUTRAL WITH THE CLUTCH ENGAGED (PEDAL RELEASED) CAN SET A CODE 24 SINCE THE VEHICLE SPEED IS ZERO.
VEHICLE PERFORMANCE WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY THIS CONDITION. IF CARBURETOR, ISC,AND TPS ADJUSTMENTS ARE CORRECT, THIS CONDITION SHOULD BE CONSIDERED NORMAL.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
