BODY SECTION SERVICE MANUAL REVISION

HEADLINING ASSEMBLY SERVICE PROCEDURE REVISION 1982 'J' (REVISED HEADLINING SERVICE REPLACEMENT INFORMATION CHANGE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: ALL 1982 'J' STYLES

"J" HEADLINER SECTION 8

THE ONE PIECE FORMED HEADLINER IS NOW RETAINED IN PLACE WITH TWO 457 MM (18 INCH) LONG STRIPS OF HOOK AND LOOP MATERIAL LOCATED AT THE FRONT AND REAR AND TWO (2) 1200 MM (47 1/4 INCH) LONG SEALING STRIPS LOCATED ALONG BOTH SIDES OF THE HEADLINER. FINAL ATTACHMENT IS ACCOMPLISHED BY THE INSTALLATION OF RELATED HARDWARE AND INTERIOR MOULDINGS (FIGURE 1).

FORMED HEADLINING - SERVICE REPLACEMENT

THE REPLACEMENT HEADLINING IS OFFERED AS A PRE PIERCED, ONE PIECE ASSEMBLY. THE TRIM PANEL IS PREPIERCED TO ACCOMMODATE ATTACHMENT OF COMPONENTS SUCH AS SUNSHADE SUPPORTS, DOME LAMPS, ASSIST STRAPS, COAT HOOKS AND VISTA VENTS.

ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

1. REMOVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

A. SUNSHADE SUPPORT BRACKETS B. COAT HOOKS C. WINDSHIELD PILLAR SIDE UPPER GRANISH MOULDINGS D. SIDE ROOL FAIL MOULDINGS E. SHOULDER BELT EXCUTCHEONE AND RETAINING BOLTS F. ROOF MOUNTED ASSIST STRAPS G. UPPER QUARTER TRIM FINISHING PANEL H. VISTA VENT FINISHING LACE (IF PRESENT) I. DOME LAMPS J. UPPER BODY LOCK PILLAR TRIM FINISHING MOULDINGS K. UPPER REAR GARNISH MOULDING - 35 AND 77 STYLES

2. TO LOOSEN THE HEADLINING, USE A HEADLINING INSTALLATION TOOL, J2772 OR EQUIVALENT, AND STARTING AT ONE END OF THE HOOK AND LOOP MATERIAL, IN- SERT THE TOOL BETWEEN THE HOOK AND LOOP AND CAREFULLY SEPARATE THE HOOK PORTION FROM THE LOOP PORTION OF MATERIAL UNTIL THE HEADLINING IS LOOSE FROM THE WINDSHIELD HEADER.

NOTICE: FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE COULD DAMAGE THE HEADLINING STYROFOAM BACKING AND REQUIRE A HEADLINING REPLACEMENT. 3. REMOVE THE HEADLINING ASSEMBLY FROM 35 TO 77 STYLES THROUGH BACK BODY OPENING. REMOVE THE ASSEMBLY THROUGH THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR FOR 27 AND 69 STYLES.

INSTALLATION

NOTICE: IN REPLACING THE HEADLINING ASSEMBLY, CARE MUST BE EXERCISED WHEN LOADING THE ASSEMBLY INTO THE VEHICLE. OVER FLEXING MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE.

INSTALLATION

1. ON 27 AND 69 STYLES, LOAD THE REAR PORTION OF HEADLINING DIAGONALLY THROUGH THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR OPENING AND POSITION INTO THE BODY.

2. ON 35 AND 77 STYLES, LOAD THE HEADLINING THROUGH THE REAR BODY OPENING AND POSITION INTO THE BODY

3. ALIGN THE HEADLINING ASSEMBLY WITH THE SUNSHADE CUTOUT HOLES TO THE SUN- SHADE HOLES IN THE WINDSHIELD FRAME AND APPLY UPWARD PRESSURE ALONG FRONT EDGE OF THE HEADLINING TO FULLY ENGAGE THE PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED HOOK AND LOOP MATERIAL ON HEADLINING, WITH MATING HOOK AND LOOP MATERIAL AT THE WINDSHIELD INNER REINFORCEMENT (FIGURE 3).

4. POSITION REAR OF THE HEADLINING TO BACK WINDOW INNER REINFORCEMENT AND APPLY UPWARD PRESSURE TO REAR EDGE OF THE HEADLINING AT THE AREA OF THE PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED HOOK AND LOOP MATERIAL TO FULLY ENGAGE THE MATING MATERIAL AT THE BACK WINDOW INNER REINFORCEMENT.

5. INSTALL ALL THE PREVIOUSLY REMOVED HARDWARD AND INTERIOR MOULDINGS.
