Tools Required
J 28509-A Counter Gear Bearing Remover
- Remove the lead from the solenoid terminal.
- Remove the solenoid retaining bolts.
- Remove the through bolts.
Caution: Magnets in frame have strong attraction to metal parts. Keep fingers clear
of pinch points in order to avoid personal injury.
- Remove the screws and commutator
end frame from the motor assembly (the brush assembly and bearing remain on
armature).
- Remove the armature from the field frame.
- Remove the frame and shield from the drive end housing assembly.
Notice: Before removing, lift each brush spring and rest against side of brush;
this prevents brush damage when assembly is pulled off of commutator. If springs
are allowed to push brushes down when brush is moved off of commutator, the
brush pigtail lead may be separated from the brush.
- Use the J 28509-A
or the equivalent in order to pull the bearing from the armature.
The bearing is press fit over the shaft.
- Slightly separate the gear and drive assembly from the drive end
frame and use a screwdriver to pry the plastic shift lever off the drive pins.
- Remove the gear and drive from the drive end frame.
- Thrust the collar from the armature shaft, then slide the deep
socket over the shaft, and tap the socket to drive the pinion stop collar
off the retainer ring.
- Remove the retainer ring and drive from the shaft.
