ROUGH 3-4 SHIFT FEEL & REVISED ASSEMBLY SEQUENCE/325 TRANS.

BEGINNING MID-MARCH 1982, ALL 325-4L "AJ" MODEL TRANSMISSIONS WERE BUILT USING A REVISED ASSEMBLY SEQUENCE FOR THE 3-4 ACCUMULATOR PISTON AND THE ADDITION OF A 3-4 ACCUMULATOR SPRING, FIGURE 2. THIS SEQUENCE CHANGE WILL PROVIDE A MORE DESIRABLE 3-4 SHIFT FEEL. IF THE 3-4 ACCUMULATOR PISTON IS INSTALLED AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1, WITH NO 3-4 ACCUMULATOR SPRING, AND THE CONDITION IS A ROUGH 3-4 SHIFT, PROCEED AS FOLLOWS: SERVICE INFORMATION 1.INSTALL THE 3-4 ACCUMULATOR PISTON INTO THE ACCUMULATOR HOUSING IN AN INVERTED POSITION (SPRING POCKET SIDE UP, FIGURE 2). 2.INSTALL A NEW SPRING (PART NO. 8635277) OVER THE PISTON.(SAME ORIENTATION AS THE 1-2 ACCUMULATOR.) 3.DO NOT INSTALL THE SNAP RING AT THE TOP OF THE ACCUMULATOR PIN. SUBJECT: ROUGH 3-4 SHIFT MODEL: 1982 THM 325-4L AM & BE MODELS SOME 1982 THM 325-4L TRANSMISSIONS, AM & BE MODELS ONLY, MAY EXPERIENCE A ROUGH 3-4 SHIFT, THAT SOMETIMES MAY BE FELT AS A 3-4 LETUP "BUMP". TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, A SERVICE PACKAGE HAS BEEN MADE AVAILABLE. THIS SERVICE PACKAGE CONTAINS A REVISED ACCUMULATOR HOUSING, THAT HAS THE PISTON POCKET MACHINED 5 MM (.190 IN.) DEEPER, AND TWO ACCUMULATOR PINS THAT ARE 5 MM (.190 IN.) LONGER. IN ADDITION, A REVISED 3-4 ACCUMULATOR SPRING MUST BE INSTALLED. THESE PACKAGES WILL LENGTHEN THE STROKE OF THE 3-4 PISTON AND PROVIDE A SMOOTH 3-4 SHIFT FEEL.
