OLDSMOBILE IS INSTALLING A YELLOW GROUNDED DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR IN THE COMPUTER COMMAND CONTROL ALCL CONNECTOR LOCATED BENEATH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ON ALL CARS EQUIPPED WITH THE OLDSMOBILE MANUFACTURED LV-8 4.3L V-8 OR LV-2 5.0L V-8 ENGINES. THE PURPOSE OF THIS CONNECTOR IS TO MINIMIZE COLD WEATHER SPARK PLUG FOULING DUE TO REPEATED ENGINE STARTS FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME WHILE THE CAR IS IN DEALERSHIP NEW CAR INVENTORY. THERE WILL BE A BLUE TAG WITH A LARGE "NOTICE" IMPRINTED ON THE TAG ATTACHED TO THE CONNECTOR. THE INSTRUCTIONS STATE "REMOVE ATTACHED CONNECTOR FROM CAR JUST PRIOR TO CUSTOMER DELIVERY". SEE FIG. 1. THE CONNECTOR GROUNDS THE COMPUTER COMMAND CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC TEST TERMINAL WHICH WILL CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO FLASH CODE 12 WHENEVER THE IGNITION SWITCH IS IN "RUN" POSITION. THE ENGINE WILL REMAIN AT BASE TIMING. IN THE EVENT OF A CUSTOMER DEMONSTRATION DRIVE OR A DEALER TRADE, THE CONNECTOR SHOULD BE REMOVED, HOWEVER, IT SHOULD BE REINSTALLED AFTER THE CAR IS RETURNED TO NEW CAR INVENTORY. THE CONNECTOR IS TO BE REMOVED AND DISCARDED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE CUSTOMER TAKING DELIVERY OF THE CAR. THIS CONNECTOR WILL BE INSTALLED DURING THE PERIOD OF COLD WEATHER WHEN SPARK PLUG FOULING IS MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR. PLEASE ADVISE YOUR SALES AND SERVICE STAFFS OF THIS PROCEDURE.
