Beginning late August, 1982, a production trial run (P.T.R.) was made using a new design transmission oil pan. This design has the stiffening ribs inverted from the first design used in 1982 model production. (See Figures 1 and 2 below):
This new transmission oil pan is designed to improve sealing, and prevent gasket splits. If leakage does occur in the pan gasket area, please furnish the information requested on a copy of the form provided in this Bulletin to Buick Motor Division, Service Department, Flint, Michigan. Be sure to identify the area of the leak on the form (Areas 1-15).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
