SOME OLDSMOBILE AND BUICK "E" CARS HAVE EXPERIENCED DISTORTED AND/OR CRACKED SEAT BOTTOM SIDE TRIM PANELS. IN AN EFFORT TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, AN ALUMINUM ROD (160MM IN LENGTH, 8MM DIAMETER) HAS BEEN RELEASED TO STIFFEN THE CENTRE PORTION OF THE PANEL, PART NUMBER 20425617. THIS ROD SNAPS UNDER THE UPPER FLANGE AND IS LOCATED 151MM AFT OF THE FORWARD EDGE OF THE PANEL (SEE ATTACHED ILLUSTRATION). IF SET BOTTOM SIDE TRIM PANELS ARE NOT SEVERELY DISTORTED, THEY MAY BE STRAIGHTENED AND ROD INSTALLED TO PREVENT THE CONDITION FROM RECURRING WHEN ORDERING THE REPLACEMENT SEAT BOTTOM SIDE TRIM PANELS LIST BELOW, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO ALSO ORDER PART NUMBER 20425617, ALUIMUNM ROD AND INSTALL PER ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS. THE ALUMINUM ROD IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. AS A SUBSTITUTE, A PIECE OF 5/16 ALUMINUM OR GALVANIZED STEEL ROD MAY BE OBTAINED LOCALLY AND CUT TO THE PROPER LENGTH. 20100116 PASSENGER 82 OLDS E 20100117 DRIVER 82 OLDS E 20100118 PASSENGER 82 BUICK E 20100119 DRIVER 82 BUICK E 20100122 PASSENGER 82 OLDS E - MANUAL RECLINER 20156301 DRIVER 82 OLDS E - MANUAL RECLINER 20100123 PASSENGER 82 BUICK E - ELECTRIC RECLINER 20177212 DRIVER 82 BUICK E - ELECTRIC RECLINER 20237523 PASSENGER 82 OLDS E - ELECTRIC RECLINER
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
