Muffler Right Side Dual Pont/Buick

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Support the intermediate exhaust pipe and the right hand muffler.
  3. Important: Cut (1) must be made as close to the right hand muffler as possible in order to ensure adequate overlap for clamping.

  4. Cut the intermediate exhaust pipe at the right hand muffler in front of the weld.
  5. Remove the hangers from the muffler.
  6. Remove the tailpipe from the muffler.
  7. Remove the muffler.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 33034  Size: SH
  1. Install the clamp to the end of the new right hand muffler. Do not tighten the clamp.
  2. Install the new muffler.
  3. Install the hangers to the muffler.
  4. Install the tailpipe to the muffler.
  5. Tighten

    1. Tighten the pipe clamp nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the tailpipe clamp nut to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Lower the vehicle.

Muffler Left Side Dual Pontiac/Buick

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Support the intermediate exhaust pipe and the left-hand muffler.
  3. Important: Cut (1) must be made as close to the left hand muffler as possible in order to ensure adequate overlap for clamping.

  4. Cut the intermediate exhaust pipe at the left hand muffler in front of the weld.
  5. Remove the hangers from the muffler.
  6. Remove the tailpipe from the muffler.
  7. Remove the left hand muffler.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the clamp to the end of the new left hand muffler. Do not tighten the clamp.
  2. Install the new muffler.
  3. Install the hangers to the muffler.
  4. Install the tailpipe to the muffler.
  5. Tighten

    1. Tighten the pipe clamp nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the tailpipe clamp nut to 35 N·m (27 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Removal Procedure

  2. Support the intermediate exhaust pipe and mufflers.
  3. Important: Cut (1) must be made as close to the weld (2) as possible to ensure adequate overlap for clamping.

  4. Cut the intermediate exhaust pipe at the muffler in front of the weld.

  5. Object Number: 33047  Size: SH
  6. Remove the hangers from the muffler.
  7. Remove the muffler.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 33038  Size: SH
  1. Install the clamp to the end of the muffler. Do not tighten the clamp.
  2. Install the muffler.

  3. Object Number: 33047  Size: SH
  4. Install the hangers to the muffler.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   6. Lower the vehicle.

Muffler Left Side-Dual Chevy/Olds

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Support the left-hand muffler and crossover pipe.

  3. Object Number: 33031  Size: SH
  4. Cut the intermediate exhaust pipe closest to the left side muffler bend.
  5. Important: The cut (s) must be made on the intermediate straight pipe closest to the curve coming out of the left side muffler. Do not cut on the curve or bend.

  6. Remove the clamp at the intermediate exhaust pipe.

  7. Object Number: 33056  Size: SH
  8. Remove the hangers from the muffler.
  9. Remove the muffler and the crossover pipe.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 33034  Size: SH
  1. Install the clamp to the end of the muffler. Do not tighten the clamp.

  2. Object Number: 33047  Size: SH
  3. Install the muffler.

  4. Object Number: 78335  Size: SH
  5. Install the muffler and crossover pipe.

  6. Object Number: 78336  Size: SH
  7. Install the hangers to the muffler.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp nuts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
