Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement 3.1L Engine Pontiac/Buick

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air filter cover and the intake duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
  2. Remove the heater inlet pipe. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.

  3. Object Number: 25515  Size: SH
  4. Remove the nuts from the crossover heat shield.
  5. Remove the heat shield.
  6. Remove the nuts from the crossover pipe.
  7. Remove the crossover pipe.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 25515  Size: SH
  1. Install the crossover pipe.
  2. Install the nuts to the crossover pipe.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the heat shield.
  5. Install the heat shield nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (88 lb in).

  7. Install the heater inlet pipe. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  8. Install the air filter cover and the intake duct. Refer to Engine Controls.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air filter cover and the intake duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
  2. Remove the crossover pipe mounting nuts.
  3. Remove the crossover pipe.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crossover pipe.
  2. Install the crossover pipe mounting nuts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner and duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
  2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the engine torque struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Rotate the engine. Refer to Rotating the Engine for Service Access in Engine Mechanical.
  5. Remove the tie straps from the heater outlet pipe and ignition wiring harness.

  6. Object Number: 63507  Size: SH
  7. Remove the upper radiator hose from the engine.
  8. Remove the vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to Vacuum Modulator in Automatic Transaxle.
  9. Remove the heater outlet hose and thermostat bypass pipe. Refer to Heater Hoses in HVAC.

  10. Object Number: 25515  Size: SH
  11. Remove the heat shield bolts.
  12. Remove the heat shields.
  13. Remove the crossover pipe bolts.
  14. Remove the crossover pipe.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 25515  Size: SH
  1. Install the crossover pipe.
  2. Install the crossover bolts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   4. Install the heat shields.
  5. Install the heat shield bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the heater outlet hose and the thermostat bypass pipe. Refer to Heater Hoses in HVAC.
  8. Install the vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to Vacuum Modulator in Automatic Transaxle.
  9. Install the tie straps at the heater outlet pipe and ignition wiring harness.

  10. Object Number: 63507  Size: SH
  11. Install the upper radiator hose to the engine.
  12. Rotate the engine. Refer to Rotating the Engine for Service Access in Engine Mechanical.
  13. Install the engine torque struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  14. Refill with engine coolant. Add two engine coolant sealant pellets, GM P/N 3634621. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
  15. Bleed the engine cooing system.
  16. Install the air cleaner and duct. Refer to Engine Controls.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner and duct. Refer to Engine Controls.

  2. Object Number: 33064  Size: SH
  3. Remove the mounting nuts.
  4. Remove the crossover pipe.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crossover pipe.
  2. Install the mounting nuts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
