Catalytic Converter Replacement Chevrolet/Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 32999  Size: SH
  3. Remove the nuts from the manifold.

  4. Object Number: 33009  Size: SH
  5. Remove the bolts from the intermediate exhaust pipe to the three way catalytic converter.
  6. Remove the catalytic converter.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 33009  Size: SH
  1. Install the converter.
  2. Install the intermediate exhaust pipe end bolts to the three way catalytic converter.

  3. Object Number: 32999  Size: SH
  4. Install the nuts to the manifold.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the nuts to the manifold to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

        • Tighten the bolts to the three way catalytic converter to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).
        • Lower the vehicle.

Catalytic Converter Replacement L36 and L67 Pontiac/Buick

Removal Procedure

The three way catalytic converter is serviced by replacing the entire assembly. Always replace the gaskets at the front and rear flanges when servicing the three way catalytic converter assembly. Never reinstall the original gaskets.

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 107763  Size: SH
  3. Remove the nuts from the manifold.
  4. Remove the bolts from the intermediate exhaust pipe to the three way catalytic converter.
  5. Remove the catalytic converter.
  6. Remove the gasket from the three way catalytic converter front flange.

  7. Object Number: 107768  Size: SH
  8. Remove the gasket from the three way catalytic converter rear flange.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 107768  Size: SH
  1. Install a new gasket to the three way catalytic converter rear flange.

  2. Object Number: 107763  Size: SH
  3. Install a new gasket to the three way catalytic converter front flange.
  4. Install the new three way catalytic converter.
  5. Install the intermediate exhaust pipe bolts to the three way catalytic converter.
  6. Install the nuts to the manifold.
  7. Tighten

        • Tighten the nuts to the manifold to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
        • Tighten the intermediate exhaust pipe bolts to the three way catalytic converter to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  8. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Remove the gasket from the three way catalytic converter rear flange.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new gasket to the three way catalytic converter rear flange.

  2. Object Number: 107855  Size: SH
  3. Install a new gasket to the three way catalytic converter front flange.

  4. Object Number: 107766  Size: SH
  5. Install the new three way catalytic converter.
  6. Install the intermediate exhaust pipe bolts to the three way catalytic converter.
  7. Install the nuts to the manifold.
  8. Tighten

        • Tighten the nuts to the manifold to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
        • Tighten the intermediate exhaust pipe bolts to the three way catalytic converter to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
