Generator Rear Brace Replacement 3.4L Engine LQ1
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
- Remove the three-way catalytic converter. Refer to Section 6F.
- Remove the generator cooling duct and reposition. Refer to Generator
Cooling Duct.
- Remove the generator rear brace retaining bolt and the nut.
- Remove the generator rear brace.
Installation Procedure
- Install the generator rear brace.
- Install the generator rear brace retaining bolt and the nut. The
parts should fit easily. Tightening bolts and nuts must NOT put the generator
in a bind.
Tighten
Tighten the generator rear brace bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the generator rear brace nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the generator cooling duct. Refer to Generator Cooling
Duct.
- Install the three-way catalytic converter. Refer to SECTION 6F.
- Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear brace to generator bolt.
- Remove the rear brace to the intake manifold nut.
- Remove the rear brace from the engine.
Installation Procedure
- Install the rear brace to the engine.
- Install the rear brace to the intake manifold nut.
Tighten
Tighten the rear brace to intake manifold nut to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Install the rear brace to generator bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the rear brace to generator bolt to 25 N·m (18
lb ft).

Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear brace bolts.
- Remove the rear brace from the engine.
Installation Procedure
- Install the rear brace to the engine.
- Install the rear brace bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the rear brace to generator bolt to 30 N·m (22
lb ft).
Tighten
Tighten the rear brace to engine bolt to 25 N·m (18
lb ft).

Removal Procedure
- Remove the EVAP canister purge solenoid from the generator rear
brace. Refer toEVAP Canister Purge Solenoid

- Remove the generator rear brace bolts.
- Remove the generator rear brace from the engine.
Installation Procedure
- Install the generator rear brace to the engine.
- Install the generator rear brace bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the generator rear brace bolts to 30 N·m (22
lb ft).
- Install the EVAP canister purge solenoid to the generator rear
brace. Refer toEVAP Canister Purge Solenoid
