Battery Cable Pontiac/Buick
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery
Ground (Negative) Cable Disconnect Caution in General Information.
- Disconnect the battery (positive) cable from the battery.
- Remove the battery (positive) cable nut and cable from the underhood
electrical center.
- Remove the battery ground (negative) cable bolt from the upper
tie bar.
- Remove the battery ground (negative) cable bolt from frame rail
near underhood electrical center.
- Remove the battery ground (negative) cable nut and cable from
transaxle stud.
- Remove the battery (positive) cable from the starter motor "BAT"
terminal.
- Remove the battery cable retainers from the lower tie bar.
- Remove the battery cables from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the battery cables to the vehicle.
- Install the battery cable retainers to the lower tie bar.
- Install the battery (positive) cable to the starter motor "BAT"
terminal.
- Install the battery ground (negative) cable and nut to the transaxle
stud.
Tighten
Tighten battery ground (negative) cable nut to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Install the battery ground (negative) cable and cable bolt to
the frame rail near underhood electrical center.
Tighten
Tighten battery ground (negative) bolt to 10 N·m (89
lb in).
- Install battery (positive) cable and nut to underhood electrical
center.
Tighten
Tighten battery (positive) bolt to 25 N·m (18
lb ft).
- Install battery (positive) cable to battery.
Tighten
Tighten battery (positive) cable to 15 N·m 11
lb ft).
- Install the battery ground (negative) cable.
Tighten
Tighten battery ground (negative) cable to 15 N·m 11
lb ft).
Battery Cable Chevrolet/Oldsmobile
Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to
Air Filter Element and Air Cleaner Assembly
or Air Cleaner Element
in Engine Controls.
- Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery
Ground (Negative) Disconnect Notice in General Information.
- Disconnect the battery (positive) cable.
- Remove the battery (positive) cable nut and cable from the underhood
electrical center.
- Remove the battery ground (negative) cable bolt from the upper
tie bar.
- Remove the battery ground (negative) cable nut and cable from
the transaxle stud.
- Remove the battery (positive) cable from the starter motor "BAT"
terminal.
- Remove the battery ground (negative) and battery (positive) cables
from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the battery ground (negative) and the battery (positive)
cables to the vehicle.
- Install the battery (positive) cable to the starter motor "BAT"
terminal.
- Install the battery ground (negative) cable and nut to the transaxle
stud.
Tighten
Tighten battery ground (negative) cable nut to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Install the battery ground (negative) cable and bolt to the upper
tie bar.
Tighten
Tighten battery ground (negative) bolt to 10 N·m (89
lb in).
- Install battery (positive) cable and nut to underhood electrical
center.
Tighten
Tighten battery (positive) bolt to 25 N·m (18
lb ft).
- Install battery (positive) cable to battery.
Tighten
Tighten battery (positive) cable to 15 N·m 11
lb ft).
- Install the battery ground (negative) cable.
Tighten
Tighten battery ground (negative) cable to 15 N·m 11
lb ft).
- Install the air cleaner. Refer to
Air Filter Element and Air Cleaner Assembly
or Air Cleaner Element
in Engine Controls.
