Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

    in General Information.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Information.
  3. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the inner fender splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil pressure sensor.
  6. Remove the oil filter. Catch the oil in a pan.

  8. Remove the four bolts holding the oil filter adapter to the front cover.
  9. Remove the following components:
  10. • The oil filter adapter
    • The gasket
    • The oil pressure valve and spring
  11. Clean the parts in a suitable solvent. Dry the parts.
  12. Clean all of the gasket sealing surfaces.
  13. Inspect the following areas:
  14. • The oil pressure valve and the valve bore for burrs
    • The spring for loss of tension, replace the spring if you are in doubt

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 73889  Size: SH
  1. Install the spring into the front cover.
  2. Install the oil pressure valve into the front cover.
  3. Install the oil filter adapter and a new gasket.
  4. Install the oil filter adapter attaching bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the oil filter.
  7. Connect the electrical connector to the oil pressure sensor.
  8. Install the inner fender splash shield. Refer to Body Front End
  9. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery.
  12. Inspect for the following conditions:
  13. • The oil pressure
    • Proper fluid levels
    • Leaks
