Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool
    •  J 38197-A Crankshaft Balancer Puller
    •  J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter
  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the supercharger drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts Replacement .
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts Replacement .
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Information.
  5. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  6. Remove the right inner fender splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.
  7. Remove the flywheel cover. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.

  9. Install J 37096 .

  10. Object Number: 97727  Size: SH
  11. Remove the crankshaft balancer retaining bolt.
  12. Notice: Service the balancer as a unit. Do not separate the pulley from the balancer hub.

  13. Install J 38197-A .
  14. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
  15. Remove J 38197-A .

Installation Procedure

  1. Coat the front cover seal contact area on the crankshaft balancer, and the seal surface with engine oil.

  2. Object Number: 97730  Size: SH
  3. Install the crankshaft balancer.
  4. Install the crankshaft balancer retaining bolt with an assistant in order to keep the flywheel from turning. Use J 37096 .
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 150 N·m (111 lb ft). Use J 36660-A in order to rotate the bolt an additional 76°.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Remove J 37096 .
  7. Install the flywheel cover. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  8. Install the right inner fender splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.
  9. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Install the drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts Replacement .
  12. Install the supercharger drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts Replacement .
  13. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery.
