Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 36660-A Torque Angle
Meter
- Remove the left (front) valve rocker arm cover. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
- Remove the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
- Remove the rocker arm pedestal retaining bolt(s).
Important: Place the parts on a clean surface. Store the components in order so
they can be reassembled in the same location and with the same mating surfaces
as when removed.
- Remove the rocker arm bearing(s) and the rocker arm(s).
- Remove retainer(s) if all rocker arms are removed.
- Remove the push rod(s).
- Clean the push rod(s), rocker arm(s), the bolt(s) and the retainer(s

point to the center of the engine.
- Install the rocker arm(s).
- Install the bearing(s).
- Install the rocker arm pedestal retaining bolt(s).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 15 N·m (18 lb ft). Use
the J 36660-A
in order to
rotate the bolts an additional 90 degrees.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
- Install the left (front) valve rocker arm cover. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
