INTERMITT. FRONT BRAKE MOAN (REPL. FRONT KNUCKLE ASSM

THIS IS A MONTHLY SERVICE NEWSLETTER ARTICLE THIS INFORMATION IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A PUBLISHED BULLETIN

CONDITION: 1996 W CAR FRONT BRAKE MOAN NOISE WITH THE VEHICLE SITTING AT REST AND THE SUSPENSION IS SLIGHTLY MOVED OR ROCKED. THIS NOISE WAS DUPLICATED BY ENTERING AND EXITING THE VEHICLE. THE INNER PAD COULD BE SLIGHTLY DEPRESSED TO ELIMINATE THE MOAN NOISE. FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE THIS NOISE IS VERY LOUD YET WHEN LISTENED TO FROM OUTSIDE, ONE MUST BE VERY CLOSE TO THE ROTOR/CALIPER ASSEMBLY TO HEAR.

CAUSE: MOVEMENT BETWEEN THE CALIPER BRACKET PLATE AND THE FACE OF THE KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY.

CORRECTION: A WELD WAS ADDED BETWEEN THE PLATE WHICH SUPPORTS THE CALIPER BRACKET AND THE FACE OF THE KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY TO MAKE THE ASSEMBLY MORE ROBUST AND ELIMINATE THE BRAKE MOAN NOISE CONCERNS. IDENTIFY WHICH SIDE(S) THE NOISE IS COMING FROM. OBTAIN A NEW KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY FROM GMSPO. PRIOR TO INSTALLATION, VERIFY THAT THE KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY IS NOT A 1995 BUILD BY USING THE STAMPED DATE CODE ON THE ASSEMBLY. ONLY INSTALL 1996-1997 STAMPED KNUCKLES. THE YEAR WILL FOLLOW THE DASH MARK IN THE DATE CODE I.E.: 162 3#-97.
