THIS BULLETIN CONTAINS MULTIPLE SUBJECTS. PAGE THROUGH TO DESIRED SUBJECT
A. V-6 DIESEL HEAD GASKET
1982 V-6 DIESEL ENGINES MAY HAVE TWO DIFFERENT MANUFACTURED HEAD GASKETS ON THE SAME ENGINE. SINCE THERE IS AN APPEARANCE DIFFERENCE, SOME OWNERS MAY QUESTION WHETHER THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. BOTH MCCORD AND GOETZ HEAD GASKETS ARE RELEASED FOR V-6 DIESELS WITH CAST IRON HEADS. EITHER MAY BE ON A GIVEN ENGINE. MCCORD GASKETS ARE BLUE GREY IN COLOR AND GOETZE GASKETS ARE BROWN IN COLOR.
B. V-6 DIESEL FAN CLUTCH
THE 1982 LT6 V-6 DIESEL (LONGITUDINAL) ENGINE COOLING FAN CLUTCH AND WATER PUMP DURABILITY. THEREFORE, WHEN REPLACING OR REASSEMBLING THESE PARTS, THE YELLOW DOTS ON EACH PART MUST BE ALIGNED DURING ASSEMBLY.
C. V-6 IDLE ADJUSTMENT (1982 REGAL AND CENTURY)
IF EQUIPPED WITH CRUISE CONTROL, IT IS NECESSARY TO DISCONNECT THE CABLE AT THE SERVO ASSEMBLY BEFORE SETTING LOW IDLE SPEED. IF THE CABLE IS ADJUSTED TO MINIMUM SLACK, THE CABLE WILL HOLD THE THROTTLE OFF THE IDLE, STOP, THEREBY PREVENTING ADJUSTMENT. AFTER SETTING IDLE, RECONNECT THE CABLE TO THE SERVO, SELECTING THE HOLE FOR MINIMUM CABLE SLACK.
D. ELECTRONIC GLOW PLUG CONTROL MODULE LOCATION (1982 CENTURY)
THE ELECTRONIC GLOW PLUG CONTROL MODULE HAS BEEN RELOCATED ON THE 1982 REGALS EQUIPPED WITH DIESEL ENGINES. THE FOLLOWING ILLUSTRATION SHOWS THE MODULE LOCATED AT THE FAR RIGHT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. USE THIS NEW ILLUSTRATION AS A REFERENCE IN PLACE OF FIGURE 6A5-10 ON PAGE 6A5-11 AND FIGURE 11 ON PAGE 6A6-12 OF THE 1982 BUICK REGAL, LESABRE, ELECTRA, AND RIVIERA CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
