CAMPAIGN: FUEL TANK VAPOR/FEED PIPES ASSEMBLED INCORRECTLY

MODELS AFFECTED: 1982 Regal Sport Coupes Equipped With Turbocharged V6 (LC8) Engine

General Motors has determined that some 1982 Regal Sport Coupes were assembled with incorrect fuel vapor and feed pipes at the fuel tank. These incorrect pipes have a 45 DEG downturn instead of a straight end where they connect to their "S" shaped feed and vapor hoses at the frame rail. This can result in the vapor hose becoming distorted or split due to contact with the exhaust heat shield. The fuel feed hose is reinforced, and though it will not split, it may also become distorted and restrict fuel flow.

To prevent this from occurring, Buick dealers are to replace the feed and vapor pipes with correct parts. New feed and vapor hoses will also be installed.

Dealers are to perform this recall campaign at no charge to the owners on affected vehicles, regardless of time, mileage or ownership, and are to correct all affected vehicles in dealer new and used car inventory prior to their sale.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used car inventory in the future, you should take steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling the vehicle. Dealers are to perform the campaign services on all affected vehicles as they are brought in for any kind of service until all affected vehicles have been corrected.

5. Remove shield shown in Figure 3 and disconnect vapor (yellow clamp and feed hoses (green clamp) from pipes located near right rear spring. Refer to Figures 1 and 2.

Dear Buick Owner:

General Motors has determined that some 1982 Regal Sport Coupes were assembled with incorrect fuel vapor and feed pipes at the fuel tank. These incorrect pipes have a 45 DEG downturn instead of a straight end where they connect to their "S" shaped feed and vapor hoses at the frame rail. This can result in the vapor hose becoming kinked or split due to contact with the exhaust heat shield. The fuel feed hose is reinforced and therefore not subject to the same failure as the vapor hose.

To prevent this from occurring, Buick dealers are to replace the feed and vapor pipes with correct parts. New feed and vapor hoses will also be installed. This service will be performed at no charge to you.

Instructions for making this correction have been sent to your dealer. Parts will be available approximately October 27, 1982. The labor time to perform this service is approximately one hour. Please allow additional time for your dealer to process your vehicle.

The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist them in making the necessary correction to your vehicle in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid owner reply card and returning it to us.

If you take your vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date and they do not remedy this condition to your satisfaction, you should contact your nearest Buick zone office either in person or by telephone for assistance. The locations and phone numbers of zone offices are listed in your Owner's Manual.

We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
