A RUNNING CHANGE IN PRODUCTION HAS BEEN MADE TO THE BULKHEAD CONNECTOR ON ALL 1982 CUTLASS CIERA AND CUTLASS SUPREME MODELS. THIS CHANGE MAY MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO SERVICE THE BULKHEAD CONNECTOR. A SUBSTITUTE BOLT IS BEING USED TO ATTACH THE ENGINE AND FORWARD LAMP HARNESS TO THE BULKHEAD CONNECTOR. THIS BOLT DOES NOT HAVE A COLLARED WASHER LOCATED ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE HARNESS CONNECTOR LIKE THE BOLT USED PREVIOUSLY. THE COLLARED WASHER BACKS THE HARNESS CONNECTORS OUT OF THE BULKHEAD CONNECTOR WHEN THE BOLT IS LOOSENED. SINCE THE SUBSTITUTE BOLT DOES NOT HAVE THIS WASHER IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO PULL THE CONNECTION APART AFTER THE BOLT HAS BEEN REMOVED . LIKEWISE, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO PUSH THE ENGINE & FORWARD LAMP HARNESS CONNECTOR INTO THE BULKHEAD BEFORE REINSTALLING THE BOLT. CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED WHEN DOING THESE OPERATIONS TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CONNECTORS.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
