WHENEVER THE ABS, TCS OR TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEMS ARE BEING SERVICED, THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE PERFORMED FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR OF CORRODED/DAMAGED TERMINALS ON THE EBTCM CONNECTOR AND DAMAGED EBTCM. THIS PROCEDURE SHOULD ALSO BE FOLLOWED WHEN THE ABS/TCS LIGHT IS ON WITH MULTIPLE ABS/TCS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC'S) SET.
CORROSION AND/OR DAMAGE MAY BE DUE TO WATER THAT COULD WICK FROM THE ABS GROUND RING TERMINAL AT G-104 THROUGH THE WIRE (CKT 1150) AND INTO THE EBTCM CONNECTOR.
1. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
2. REMOVE THE PCM COVER.
3. REMOVE THE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY.
4. DISCONNECT EBTCM 38-WAY CONNECTOR.
5. INSPECT THE EBTCM HARNESS CONNECTOR (6-WAY PORTION) FOR CORROSION. IF CORROSION IS PRESENT, FOLLOW ALL OF THE STEPS LISTED BELOW EXCEPT STEP 21. IF CORROSION IS NOT PRESENT, DISREGARD STEPS 6 THROUGH 20 AND BEGIN WITH STEP 21.
6. REMOVE THE WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR.
7. DISCONNECT THE LF WHEEL SENSOR CONNECTOR.
8. DISCONNECT THE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR.
9. DISCONNECT CONNECTOR C102 (NEAR GROUND G104).
10. REMOVE THE GROUND SCREW FROM G104.
11. PULL THE HARNESS UP FOR ACCESS AND REMOVE THE CONDUIT, STRIP TAPE AND THE BLACK WIRE. USE THIS WIRE AS A PATTERN.
12. CONSTRUCT A NEW GROUND WIRE CKT 1150 WITH BLACK 10 GAGE WIRE (5.0 MM2).
O INSTALL A NEW RING TERMINAL ON CKT 1150.
O SOLDER THE RING TERMINAL TO THE CKT 1150 WIRES AFTER USING THE PROPER CRIMPING TOOL.
O SEAL THE GROUND RING TERMINAL ON CKT 1150 BY APPLYING TWO OR THREE DROPS OF CYANOACRYLATE GLUE SUCH AS PERMABOND(R) 101, PERMABOND(R) 790, LOCTITE(R) 406, OR EQUIVALENT TO THE EXPOSED CONDUCTOR AT THE RING TERMINAL. INSURE THAT NO GLUE IS ON THE RING TERMINAL/FASTENER SURFACES BECAUSE THE GROUND PATH IS THROUGH THE RING TERMINAL SURFACE, INTO THE FASTENER HEAD, AND THEN THROUGH THE FASTENER THREADS TO GROUND.
O INSTALL THE RING TERMINAL. INSURE ALL MATING SURFACES ARE CLEAN AND FREE OF GLUE.
13. REPLACE ALL CORRODED TERMINALS IN THE 6-WAY PORTION OF THE EBTCM CONNECTOR (SEE PARTS INFORMATION BELOW FOR OBTAINING PARTS).
O SOLDER ALL TERMINALS AFTER USING THE PROPER CRIMPING TOOL.
14. INSTALL WIRE INTO THE HARNESS, RETAPE THE HARNESS AND REPLACE THE CONDUIT.
15. INSTALL THE HARNESS IN THE ORIGINAL POSITION.
16. CONNECT THE PARK NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR.
17. CONNECT THE LF WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR.
18. CONNECT C102.
19. CONNECT G104 TO RAIL.
20. INSTALL THE WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR.
21. IF NO CORROSION IS PRESENT ON THE EBTCM 6-WAY PORTION OF THE HARNESS CONNECTOR, USE A STIFF BRISTLE NON-METALIC BRUSH TO CLEAN THE RING TERMINAL TO WIRE INTERFACE AT GROUND G-104. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE PAINT IN THE AREA. MAKE SURE THE AREA IS DRY. SEAL THE GROUND RING TERMINAL ON CKT 1150 BY APPLYING TWO OR THREE DROPS OF LIQUID CYANOACRYLATE GLUE SUCH AS PERMABOND(R) 1001, PERMABOND(R) 790, LOCTITE(R) 406, OR EQUIVALENT TO THE EXPOSED WIRE AT THE RING TERMINAL.
22. USE A LIGHT AND MIRROR TO INSPECT THE EBTCM 6-WAY TERMINALS FOR CORROSION.
23. REPLACE THE EBTCM IF CORROSION IS PRESENT ON ANY OF THE EBTCM 6-WAY CONNECTOR TERMINALS. IF CORROSION IS NOT PRESENT, CONTINUE WITH STEP 24.
O CLEAN THE BPMV/EBTCM SEAL AND THE BPMV GASKET SURFACE WITH ALCOHOL.
O TORQUE THE CENTER BOLT FIRST TO 14 N.M (40 LB IN) AND THEN TORQUE THE 4 MOUNTING BOLTS TO 4.5 N.M (10 LB FT).
24. COAT THE EBTCM CONNECTOR TERMINALS WITH DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT (DO NOT USE SILICONE GREASE) OR EQUIVALENT, NON-SILICONE BASED ELECTRICAL LUBRICANT.
25. CONNECT THE EBTCM CONNECTOR.
26. CONNECT THE BATTERY.
27. CLEAR ALL ABS/TCS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES.
28. COMPLETE THE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK.
29. IF ANY DTCS ARE PRESENT, FOLLOW THE DIAGNOSTICS FOR THE DTCS WHICH ARE SET.
30. INSTALL THE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY.
31. INSTALL THE PCM COVER.
