CONVERTER A.I.R PIPE PIPE LOCATION

Models Affected: 1984 Lesabres and Electras with 5.0L V-8 Gas Engines

Some 1984 LeSabres and Electras with 5.0L engines may exhibit a noise that sounds like the exhaust system hitting the floor pan. This may be caused by the A. I. R. pipe to the coverter touching the body heat shield.

To correct this condition, loosen the A.I.R. pipe to converter clamp, reposition the A.I.R. pipe away from the heat shield andd tighten the clamp. There should be about 1/2 inch clearance at the heat shield. Refer to Figure for location of clearance.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
