Subject: | Intermittent, No or Unfamiliar HVAC Operation / Two Possible Causes Technician Needs to Be Aware of Prior to CJ2 Head Replacement |
Models: | 2005 Buick LaCrosse |
With RPO CJ2 |
Two distinct concerns have surfaced causing any or all of the above customer comments. Both of the concerns have been addressed and resolved in production this past week (early March).
Item #1 : Two connectors are located on the back of the HVAC head. Early vehicles may have one or both of these connectors not fully seated into the HVAC head. Prior to disassembly, visually inspect the connectors. Carefully check for the seating condition. This condition should not be of concern after VIN 51252646, build date of 1/11/05.
Item #2 : The second issue involves the HVAC harness. After verifying that the connectors are fully seated in the HVAC head, remove the HVAC head and inspect the harness. Look closely at the harness where it routes upward beside the radio chassis. A technician discovered the HVAC harness chaffing and had rubbed-through the tape and into the harness at a very low mileage. The HVAC head was acting intermittent and one wire was intermittently grounding on the radio chassis. This concern was resolved with VIN 51284067, build date of 2/22/05.
