A FALSE MALFUNCTION CODE 24 MAY SET ON A 5.0L V-8 ENGINE IF IT IS RUN ON THE HIGH STEP OF THE FAST IDLE CAM IN PARK, FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. (APPROXIMATELY 3-5 MIN.) THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL GO OUT WHEN THE CAR OBTAINS A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. THE CODE WILL THEN BE STORED IN THE MEMORY. IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO ERASE THE MEMORY AND INFORM THE CUSTOMER OF THE CONDITION. THIS CONDITION IS NORMAL AND NO FIX SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
