Some 1984 'A' models produced at Doraville and at Oklahoma City Plants were produced with a PROM calibration that could possibly have the following conditions:
Engine diesels after ignition is turned off.
Service engine soon light on with code 53.
Deceleration periods of longer than 10 seconds will in some cases set a false code 53.
If a code 53 is stored in memory and use of trouble code chart 53 indicates no problem found, or the condition no longer exists, a new PROM Part Number 16042776 with broadcast code DPY should be installed.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
