THE DIAGNOSIS CHART ON THE BACK OF THIS BULLETIN IS TO BE USED IN PLACE OF THE EGR CHART PRINTED ON PAGE 6E1-60 IN THE 1982 CENTURY AND SKYLARK/OMEGA AND CUTLASS CIERRA CHASSIS AND BODY SERVICE MANUALS. IF IT IS FOUND THAT THE EGR VALVE IS NOT RECEIVING THE PROPER SIGNAL AND THE DIAGNOSIS CHART LEADS YOU TO AN ECM REPLACEMENT, THE EGR, EGR BLOCKING, AND EFE SOLENOID ASSEMBLY MUST ALSO BE REPLACED IF THE DAY BUILD CODE IS PRIOR TO 618. SEE FIGURE 1 FOR LOCATION OF DAY BUILD CODE ON SOLENOID. SOLENOID ASSEMBLIES BUILT PRIOR TO BUILD CODE 618 MAY HAVE ELECTRICAL CONDITIONS SUCH AS A LOOSE WINDING, INTERMITTENTLY RESULTING IN A SHORT-CIRCUIT OF THE INPUT DRIVER WITHIN THE ECM.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
